How to play word scramble

Read the clue, then rearrange all the shown letters to make its answer. Use each letter tile exactly once. There is no timer.

Let the clue narrow it down

With “A hot drink made by steeping leaves” as the clue:

TEA fits. EAT and ATE also use those letters and are real words, but they do not answer this clue. This game checks the clue’s intended answer; it is not a general word dictionary.

Use repeated letters too

If two tiles both show E, your answer needs two Es. A used tile gets a dashed outline. You can tap the other copy separately, or type both letters in the answer field.

Typing is case-insensitive. Use ordinary English letters A–Z. Spaces inside the answer, punctuation and accented letters are not part of this collection.

Type, tap and try

Tap the letter tiles to add letters to the end of your answer, or click the answer field and type normally. Use Backspace or Delete to edit. Press Enter in the field or choose Submit to check the answer.

Clear empties the answer. Undo restores the previous entry. Neither takes away a hint you have already seen.

Hint reveals one more letter from the beginning and places that prefix in the answer field. Your previous entry stays available in Undo. Keep using hints if you want to reveal the whole answer, then submit it.

Choose a comfortable word length

Short has 40 three- and four-letter words. Everyday has 40 five-letter words. Longer has 40 six-letter words. These are length groups, not measured vocabulary difficulty ratings.

Every clue was written for this collection. There are 120 common English words. Practice draws from the chosen group and avoids immediately repeating the current word; words can return later.

Daily words and saved answers

Daily selects one short word by the UTC date. Its 40-word cycle repeats every 40 days, though the letter arrangement may differ. Your saved daily stays open across midnight and when you return, until you choose today’s word.

Daily and practice are saved separately in this browser. Starting another unfinished practice word or replacing an unfinished daily asks first. If saved progress is damaged or unreadable, the original record is protected; the game explains how to recover or explicitly replace it.
